Heavy Pattern
Recently I realised that I have been slowly leaning more and more towards heavy pattern. I have been eyeing up dresses in rich florals, coveting fabric densely printed with leaves and gathering together highly decorated wallpapers on Pinterest.
I don't know why this is catching my eye so much at the moment, but if you're considering taking the level of pattern in your home up a notch, here's some inspiration:
Wallpaper from the Cole & Son Fornasetti range - love the gold keys and dense foliage here.
There's something about the closeness of the lines on this pattern that makes it great. Love the hand drawn look and slightly fifties feel to the shapes & colours.
This kitchen speaks to me - love the slightly clashy colours, which the heavy floral pulls together. From Decorate by Holly Becker.
Gorgeous Shanghai Peacock fabric (from Schumacher) - love the depth of colour and the packed detail
This dark palette bathroom uses a strongly detailed leaf pattern wallpaper alongside a stripe, chevron, geomteric pattern cushion and small scale patterned upholstery. Bold.
There's a quirky vintage feel to this heavily patterned bedroom - anyone know what this crazy wallpaper is?
Monochrome heavy pattern is used as the backdrop for a scheme of playful bright colours
My pattern explorations reminded me of an artist I read about a while ago. Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Her work takes in painting, sculptures and huge installations. She is especially known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets and for including herself in her fantastical rooms - clashing or matching. I might not take up matching myself to my house, but I will enjoy exploring more of her work, being inspired by her use of colour & pattern and, last but not least, her fab hair.
