Half-painted walls

This is my latest pick from Pinterest.

I saw a similar paint effect in Living Etc a while back and fell in love with it. There's something really interesting about leaving something half-painted, half-finished, not quite 'done'. It makes a bold design statement, and shows confidence in your choices to leave something less than perfect. I think it works particularly well in this tone of yellow.

Tips to achieve the look:
- Only go for it if you have high ceilings. Without the right dimensions it will just look odd.
- Consider how much wall you want to leave blank, but don't go for half and half. If you carefully select just the right amount of wall to paint (1/5, 3/4, 4/5 etc) then this will make a design statement. If you simply paint half the wall it will just look unfinished.
- Paint the edge carefully. It sounds silly to say "be careful" when you are deliberately leaving a raw edge, but it is vital for the line to stay at the same height around the room, and yet not to be a neat, straight edge. Use pencil marks as your guide so that they can be erased and leave some room for varying the edge of the line as you paint.
- Be painterly. Use a little flair at the unfinished edge to create pretty patterns with your brush, but don't go overboard as it could spoil the casual effect of this look.

Hope you like this unusual paint finish - is it something you would try in your home?

Before I saw this picture, I didn't actually think this would look any good - but I was pleasantly surprised! Looks great, especially with yellow and at that height across the room. Good call!
