Cool, calm and collected
I love the little bit of time inbetween Christmas and New Year. It always feels like a little respite from the real world, like somehow time has stopped and we all get a few days to snuggle down at home with our loved ones, watching films, catching up with friends, eating too much and generally having a lovely time. I also like to use this little hiatus to take stock and do a bit of re-organising... a bit of "out with the old, in with the new" as the year comes to an end.
If you are going through the same process then perhaps this pretty picture (by photographer Hallie Burton) can inspire you as it has me:
It's great to see an image with a bit of clutter, some possessions and life on view. I love the little collections all displayed together and think this could be a good idea to implement in my home. If you would like to do that too then start by taking stock of the things you own. What is repeated? What themes can you see? Are you a magpie for a particular colour, or a sucker for a certain era of vintage kitchenware? Do you gather pretty fabrics and prints? Rather than thinking about what you could declutter, give away or ebay, why not think about what you could look at in a different light? If you can rearrange and refresh your home you might find some treasured memories or well-loved pieces get a new lease of life.
Today I shall spend a bit of time gathering together some of my collections which have grown up organically - almost without me realising! - and grouping them into pretty displays, just like in the photo. I know before I even begin that my collections will definitely include the colour teal, a selection of jugs and quirky mementoes from holidays and travels.
What about you? What would your collections include?
