Vintage Home Decor
As you may have noticed from browsing the site, vintage home accessories and vintage home décor are pretty dear to my heart.
In fact, I can remember the exact moment I fell in love with vintage homewares. I was a student at the time and my budget meant I did a lot more looking and dreaming than actually buying. One day, whilst happily browsing around a second hand shop near my house, I spotted a hanging wicker chair – I think probably early 1970’s – and fell in love.
It was a bit battered, the metal support had rusted and the wicker was snapped in places, but I loved it. It was retro, cool, huge and most importantly, only £20. I couldn’t believe my luck. Obviously I purchased it there and then, only worrying about the fact that I had a tiny room in a shared house later. Four houses later it is still with me, cleaned and patched up and adorned with a handmade vintage cushion. At the time it spoke to me of a more glamorous lifestyle, free from cheap, badly made furniture and other people finishing off the milk. Now it speaks to me of my younger self, my optimism and enthusiasm and of the beginnings of a love affair with vintage design.
Currently my collection includes vintage wallpaper, a vintage circular sofa, vintage tea sets and vintage coffee pots, mid century modern glassware and vintage cushions. It's a collection that grows and changes all the time, along with my knowledge about (and appreciation of) vintage design. I love knowing that something created and loved decades - or even centuries - ago is still valuable and desirable today. Choosing vintage home accessories means a lower carbon footprint, reusing great vintage home furnishings and having something a little bit unique, stylish and different in my home. That's why Pretty Dandy stocks fabulous vintage home accessories - to share the love I have for classic design with other afficionados, and to fulfil our aim of helping our customers build a creative eclectic home.
Do you love vintage? What's your favourite find? I'd love to hear about it.
