London Design Festival 2014 - Zoe Brewer & Out Of The Dark
I am kicking off the first of our London Design Festival blog posts with a personal favourite. It combines a lot of the things I feel very passionately about – bold colour, vintage furniture, social change, minimising waste, quality craftsmanship, personality in design and – last, but never least – flowers!

These images are of the furniture collaboration between Out Of The Dark and Zoe Brewer. Zoe is the owner of My Interior Stylist – an established and successful interior styling and design company. Having been twitter friends for a while I was excited to see the new project she had been working on. I was also really looking forward to seeing the work of another twitter friend - Out Of The Dark - in the flesh.
Out Of The Dark is a truly inspiring social business. In their own words: “Out of the Dark is a charitable social enterprise that creates uniquely designed and beautifully crafted furniture. We recycle, restore and revamp pieces discarded by others; in the process we train, educate and employ young people from disadvantaged backgrounds”
I could not love this idea more. It’s such a wonderful enterprise and the icing on the cake is that their work really is gorgeous – especially these pieces! Combining bold bright colours (and Zoe’s signature pink) with classic furniture shapes, these pieces would look fab in lots of different settings. To really set the look off and create a personal detail Zoe has added felt flowers in a range of colours which bring extra decorative flair, without getting in the way of the functionality of the products.
Wonderful statement pieces, lovingly restored by hand and created in collaboration. What could be better?
A quick pic of Zoe herself!
It was great to see this fab furniture in situ at South Kilburn Studios and to enjoy a rickshaw ride around the rest of the newest design destination of LDF – Queen’s Park Design District. If you're interested in finding out how you can get your hands on a piece like these then get in touch with My Interior Stylist or Out Of The Dark to discuss your needs.
I will be sharing more finds, trend spots and photographs from the ever-fantastic London Design Festival over coming weeks. I hope you enjoy them!
