Knitted cushions, chairs, rugs and more!
Knitted cushions are a perennial favourite in interiors magazines and in homes too. They have such a wonderful tactile, comforting quality that it's hard to deny their appeal.
But, they are only the start of ways to bring the warmth and cosiness of knitting into your home... without ever even picking up a pair of needles.
As knitting has become more popular we've seen that translate into homewares in more and more amazing ways. At first there were just the simple things, cushion covers, floor cushions and so on, adding in an extra layer to the textures of a decor scheme, or bringing a sense of something true and handmade in a world of shiny manufactured goods. Since it came back into fashion there has been an explosion of knitted home accessories... here is our round up of a few fun favourites:
First up are our very own knitted cushions, which I think have a charming "custard cream" sort of look to them!
And our chunky knitted floor cushions... I love a chunky knit, don't you?
Branching out from the cosy arena of soft squishy cushions, we find a wonderful thick knit woollen rug:
from German company Mirabeau
As we explore the world of wool further we bump into a charming knitted chair... yes... I said knitted chair:
Ok, so technically the Smok range by Hans Sapperlot is smocking rather than knitting, but it's pretty close and pretty cuddly-looking, so I'll take it! Also click through to see his "knitted" lamps and more.
But that's not the only knitted chair... oh no... we also have this fabulous piece:
From Brazilian designer Nicole Tomazi's "Fractal" collection... isn't it beautiful?
You can knit yourself some storage, like these great baskets:
You can have a knitted vase - like a jumper for your glassware:
(from the What Wilson Wants blog)
Or treat yourself to a beautiful, very well designed knitted stool by Claire-Anne O'Brien
A knitted blanket is another tick in the box of wrapping up for winter - I can just imagine snuggling up in this sunny yellow blanket to watch black and white films on a rainy November Sunday:
And finally, if you really have a taste for knitwear and want to push it further than a lovely fair isle jumper, then I heartily recommend having a scout round Etsy, typing "knitted" into the search and marvelling at the things you can find... from a simple grey knitted pouffe, to a classic tea cosy, dishcloths, cup warmers and even a mint green knitted sign that reads "hey". Amazing.
What's your favourite of the pieces I've selected? Do you have any winter woollies in your home? If the answer is "no" then I whole-heartedly recommend getting yourself some sort of soft, knitted addition to your living space which can warm you up when the cold weather begins in earnest, and can add heart and cosiness to your room.
Happy snuggling!
Becky
