6 Gardening ideas from Yorkshire

Gardening ideas come in all shapes and sizes. As a recent trip up to my homeland, Yorkshire, proved!

Here are a few photos of some of the neat ideas and tips I picked up while enjoying a few days in the Yorkshire Dales with my family.

First up...

1. Don't be sparing with your hanging baskets:

Taken outside The Black Swan in Leyburn which does a great line in bountiful flora, Yorkshire ales and good tips on where to go for a quick scenic walk.

2. Paint your planters
Grassington in Bloom
Grassington in Bloom picked a lovely vintage-looking slate green tone for theirs which really set off the colours of their pretty cottage flowers

3. It's more important to see the flora than the fence
Big leaves
Love these big leaves smothering the fence beneath, but I'm not sure what plant they are... any ideas?

4. Anything can be a plant pot

Boot plant pots
To your old workboots... just get creative!

5. You can fit a windowbox anywhere
Thin window box
You just might have to get a really thin one. How cool is this super narrow window box?

6. Always accessorise
Lobster pots
This is from the Wensleydale Heifer - an award winning seafood specialist pub & B&B - where they really know how to accessorise, even using old lobster traps in their garden

So that's gardening, Yorkshire style. Hope you've enjoyed the tips and have found some inspiration for your own patch.

We had a lovely few days up in what folk from Yorkshire refer to as God's Own County. If you've never visited the Yorkshire Dales I heartily recommend it. The scenery is beautiful, there are some fabulous market towns and the food can be fantastic. Plus it can be a little like stepping back in time, which is no bad thing!

Here are a few more quick pictures to share a little of my love for this wonderful place.
