Apple crafts - DIYs and tutorials
I was doing some research recently into craft projects and came across a ton of fun free apple crafts you can do. I thought this would be a fun way to teach kids about the value of apples, how they grow and how good they are for you.
It's also a good way to highlight that apple production has changed a lot over the years - did you know that two thirds of our English orchards have disappeared since 1950? Or that there are 6000 varieties of apple on the official Apple Register, but only around a dozen are commercially produced now? I hope that with more community orchards and growing projects popping up around the country, perhaps we might be able to take a step towards reversing that trend.
So, with that in mind, let's celebrate the good old apple with these fun crafty projects:
Apple stamps
- Use a recycled material like cork to make a cute stamp to use on cards, gift-wrap and other creative projects. Tutorial on Creative Jewish Mom blog.
Paper Apple Garland
- A lovely little craft project which can then be used for party decor, or just to cheer up a room. Tutorial via A Nest For All Seasons.
Upcycled Apple Decorations / Boxes
- I like anything that re-uses plastic bottles, so this fab DIY from Joyful Jewish is a winner for me. You could even put little wishes inside.
Paper Apple Blossom Branch
- Not strictly an apple, but close, and too pretty to resist. Love this tutorial from Lia Griffith - wonderful!
Paper Apple Boxes
- Love these pretty paper printables from Alix Sorrell on Oh Happy Day blog. Sweet and contemporary, especially in these stylish colours.
So that's our round-up of some of the nicest apple crafts we found. I love how creative people get with materials, and the different ways the humble apple is recreated. Hope you like them too!
